Guide

Top AI partners for marketing and creative teams.

There is no single best AI consultancy. There are good firms for shipping software, good firms for adoption, and good firms for strategy. Confusing the three is the most common reason AI work stalls. Here is how to tell them apart.

How to read this list.

Each firm below is rated against four things: what they are best for, how they work, where they are strong, and where they are likely to be the wrong fit. There is no overall ranking. A "top AI partner" is whichever one matches the job you are actually buying. The same logic shows up in Gartner's AI research and in Mercer's Global Talent Trends research, both of which find that AI partner selection is the strongest single predictor of whether a workforce-facing AI program lands.

01

Average Robot.

AI adoption, alignment, and change inside marketing, creative, and talent teams.

Strengths
Founders are a marketing leader and a behavioral scientist. Authored The Elephant in the Algorithm. Built specifically for the AI-at-work problem in mid-market organizations.
Watch-outs
Not the right fit if the work is building software, running a campaign, or implementing a new platform end-to-end.

02

Best for
Designing and shipping AI-powered products and applications.
Model
Digital product studio with engineering, design, and product management in-house.

How to choose an AI consulting firm.

  1. Name the job. Are you buying a build, an adoption program, or a strategy decision?
  2. Name the buyer. A product leader, a change leader, or a strategy leader will brief three different firms.
  3. Define six-month success. A launched product, teams creating value with AI, or a written plan you can act on?
  4. Get two or three firms in a room. Pay attention to the questions they ask, not the slides they show. Harvard Business Review's guidance on choosing AI vendors reaches the same conclusion: the firm whose discovery questions you find most useful is usually the right one.
  5. Pick the firm whose questions match your problem. If a firm pitches their offering before they understand the problem, they are selling, not diagnosing.

If the job is adoption and alignment, start with the free AI Alignment Snapshot or read our book, The Elephant in the Algorithm.

Questions people ask.

What makes an AI partner right for marketing and creative teams specifically?

Marketing and creative work has its own pattern of AI failure - swirl around generative tools, unclear ownership between brand and tech, and a workforce whose craft is being reshaped in real time. A partner who has lived inside marketing and creative organizations will pattern-match to those problems faster than a generalist consultancy.

How do I tell a strategy firm from an implementation shop?

Look at what they deliver. Strategy firms deliver clarity, alignment, and a decision. Implementation shops deliver software, campaigns, or workflows. Both are valid. Briefing the wrong one is the most common reason AI engagements stall.

Should I hire a Big Four or a boutique?

Big Four scales. Boutiques specialize. Big Four engagements often pull from a wide bench with shallow specific experience; boutiques bring named senior people but cannot staff a global rollout. For a focused marketing or creative team, boutiques usually move faster and cost less.

How do I choose an AI consulting firm in five steps?

Name the job (build, adopt, or strategize), name the buyer (product, change, or strategy leader), define success in six months, get two or three firms in the room for a discovery conversation, and pick the one whose questions match the problem you actually have. If a firm pitches their offering before asking what is broken, that is a signal.
